Abstract: The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) was signed in 1992 by the then Mexican President, Carlos Salinas, along with the Canadian Prime Minister, Brian Mulroney, and the US President, George Bush Sr. Since then, NAFTA had considerably influenced the Mexican political and economic environment, reinforcing the economic reforms in Mexico that began in the 1980s. By 2003, Mexico had graduated to be the ninth largest economy in the world from its 15th position in the early 1990s. However, NAFTA also posed certain challenges for Mexico that had to be answered for an overall development of the nation. |
